The Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors Program invites high-achieving and highly motivated students an opportunity to participate in enhanced curricular experiences that are complimentary to their major courses. With a required minimum cumulative 3.3 GPA to remain in the program, selection is offered to our most competitive students.

Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors Program Students will experience exclusive opportunities such as:

  • Alumni and peer mentorship.
  • Off-Campus activities to cultural, social, and leadership events to enhance classroom learning.
  • Small seminar classes that offer a different learning experience focused on discussion and reflection rather than lecture, textbooks, and tests.
  • A language certificate upon completion of a critical need language course taught by a Fulbright teaching assistant.
  • Study space with a computer lab and print station.
  • Special recognition at commencement and honors convocation.

Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors Program Students receives individualized advising and assistance with resume preparation and postgraduate school application, priority in scholarship and internship opportunities and considerations for travel funding for presentations and conferences, and some priority in student housing selection.

Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors Program Students become leaders on campus while serving as Honors Ambassadors who represent the University and the Honors Program at campus and external events. Honors Ambassadors participate in recruitment events, serve as hosts to perspectives students and parents, and assist with special events like the Honors Convocation, Honors Programs, and other events hosted by the University’s president.

Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors University Life students will get to know the inner-workings of the university and discover available resources and opportunities, all while working with other highly motivated honors students. They will create a portfolio to display the skills and experiences gained through these activities.

Foreign Language:

In collaboration with Global Programs, students will complete courses in Russian, Mandarin, Arabic, or Portuguese, critical needs languages for the security of the United States. Students will receive a language certification of completion.

Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors Seminars:

These seminar courses will focus on learning in and outside of the classroom using peer discussion and self-reflection to deepen their understanding of the world around them.

  • HO292 – Sophomore Honors Colloquium: Shaping the Future Seminar
  • HO392 – Junior Honors Colloquium: Special Topics Seminar

Senior Thesis or Capstone Project (3 Credit Hours): If one of the options is not offered in your major area of study, students may enroll in the HO491 Independent Study Senior Thesis course with approval from the Honors Program director and the student’s major advisor.

Additional 9 Honors hours in a student major totaling 25 honors credit hours. Options include:

  • Course designated by an academic department as an Honors course or Enhanced 300-level or higher course in the major or area of study for Honors Program director approval.
